Hello! How are you?
My question to you is about one of my favourite mixes, the Beat Up The NME mix tape that you did about 13 years ago now.
I have wanted to know what one particular tune is on that mix. The song is not on the tracklisting but it’s in between Psychedeliasmith – Fixy Jointy and Basement Jaxx – Fly Life.
I though it may have been an old skool Bassbin Twins tune, but I had asked on http://www.nuskoolbreaks.co.uk and someone asked them and they said it wasn’t. Mr Cut La Roc said he has the tune but it’s buried in his garage and he can’t remember what it is. Someone else suggested I ask you, I didn’t even know you provided this fantastic service!
I’m really hoping you know because it’s a top tune.
Here is the link to that mix tape on youtube, the particular tune I’m on about is at 2:25 til 5:09 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r_xFu2wg4Nw&feature=related
I very much look forward to your reply, as this is my last hope!
Thanks
Alex
Alex. Hats off to you for train spot of the week!
I just found the record you were after and it is available on vinyl on discogs…
http://www.discogs.com/DJ-Choco-Wild-Styles-The-Violent-House-EP/release/833826
It’s by dj choco and is from the violent house ep. Track 4 Phew. You are really testing my trainspotting skills here and I like it!
X norm
Thanks so much for finding out the DJ Choco record for me! I’ve ordered a copy from Discogs, can’t wait for it to arrive! Cheers Norm!
How much does Norman like nurses? Im a massive fan and got through all my training writing my assignments to his music. I’m now organising a graduation ball for 120 nurses and doing an auction for Rainbows Childrens hospice and the Teenage Cancer Trust at the ball. Would he like to donate anything for the auction or better still spin the decks for us?!! Nursing in the West Midlands is always going to be fairly shite for us, as we are SOOOO far from the sea, and anything to boost our spirits and raise money for such great causes would be truly amazing. Look forward to hearing from you.
I’m so fond of nurses that I once married one!
I will sort out some goodies (via my esteemed colleague jam, who operates this site) Good luck with the ball.
Norm,
I just saw you do a show at Global Gathering in Seoul for the first time. It was great. You do shows in many different places and have worked with many different people. My question is, where was your favorite show and who have you enjoyed working with (doing shows or creating videos)?
Travis
Travis, my favourite show ever was the 1st one on brighton beach (2001) not so many people as the 2nd (65,000) but a fantastic homecoming party after traveling the world. My favourite shows have been the armand van helden boxing ring shows. Red rocks in colorado with the chemical brothers and the world cup 2002 in japan with damien, the midfield general, jon carter and darren emerson.
speaking of japan 2002, where can I get a copy of your 2002 world cup video diaries, we are lovers not fighters remember that?
Try this, raymondo….

Is there any chance you could take 30 minutes or so outta your busy schedule to knock together a quick Wedding mix for me and my bride to be?
We’re having Candi Staton “You’ve Got the Love” as a first dance so if you could start with that it’d be Mint (Royale),
Maybe a bit of “Praise You” for drunk Dad dancing and a few more big beats with stuff me Mum will have heard of over the top and we’d be sorted and I could tell the venue DJ to do one.
Failing that, we’re coming to see you at The Engine Shed, Lincoln at the end of the month so if you could play a version of “You’ve Got the Love” at some point that night it would be super.
Cheers
Neal and Tracy
Sorry, n&t. I only just got this, just days after the lincoln gig. I’m afraid you’ll have to put that mix together yourselves. It sounds like a good one.
If you’re after dad dancing then may I suggest ‘you never can tell’ by chuck berry or my personal wedding favourite (which me and zoe danced to at ours) robert mitchum’s version of ‘from a logical point of view’
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gkwgQUCwLFg
Well done for going for candi staton’s version of ‘you’ve got the love’ the orginal is the best!
Good luck with the wedding and wishing you a long, fruitful and love-filled marriage.

Hi Norm,
I realy want to get hold of a copy of your 1999 date with destiny fatboy slim vs armand van helden at brixton please help! I did tape it of radio 1 back then want a better copy.
Cheers Darren
Darren, try the interweb, even I don’t possess a copy of that one I bet it was quite a lively set!
Hi Norm,
Have you or any of the Skint/Southern Fried peeps thought about working with the ‘DJ Hero’ team on their next video game?
David, I’m not a huge fan of dj hero. As you say it’s a game not anything to do with real dj’ing. We are working with them on the next dj hero, though I believe
Saw you in Hong Kong on Friday night and loved the set… just wanted to now where I can get hold of some of those old skool hip-hop mashes you played they were awesome….
Let us know when your next here mate – I will buy you a few beers…. enjoy Korea and Taiwan (Great town taiwan)
PS: you need to play in central rather than the expo arena!
Carl, I’m afraid those mash ups are either ones I’ve done or things that came out on vinyl many moons ago. I suggest if you buy the clapham common set that’s the only way you’ll get them. I think I played most of the favourites that night..
Yep you’re right. That expo centre is bloody miles away isn’t it. Of course I don’t know these things until I get there. Next time, my friend….
Hello Norman!
What direction you will be heading in your new album?
Will it be something like your recent single with Herve “Machines Can Do The Work” or something similar to “Palookaville”?
Best Regars
Phil
Probably it will be more dancefloor orientated, like the herve stuff though who knows what might happen?
Hi Slim,
xxxxxxxxx S
I am really your No. 1 fan (sorry couldn’t resist!). Anyway I am coming to see you in Nottingham, and I’m really really looking forward to it, but one small problem still prevails – how on earth do I get backstage passes? Are there any available? – I would pay the earth if it’s a question of finance? or is it just for select celebs only and not real people like myself?
Also your responses to Q’s on this site are quite reserved considering how much anger and cynicism you portray in your music, is there any chance you could roughly explain what you are REALLY like and why your responses here are beautifully worded and inoffensive yet your musical lyrics are the complete opposite, full of true anger, frustration and somewhat more genuine and without reservations? I love it, and I am coming to see you on the 12.12.10, and did I say? I CAN’T WAIT
Silky, you have got me all wrong. My lyrics are not full of anger and frustration, they are mostly gentle poking fun at life and not too serious.
The real me is the polite one you read here, genuine and not angry. I will try and prove it to you at rock city.
As for backstage passes, I don’t know what rock and roll legend you have subscribed to about what goes on backstage at shows. There is no bad-ass VIP hang out full of swimwear models and free drinks. Just a pokey room with a fridge, a few jaded roadies and possibly me going through my set on the laptop. It is not glamorous, I promise you. The real people are the ones in
the crowd
Hey Norman,
i saw you the first time at sw4 and i had lots of fun. Although it was an great event. Beutifull weather , nice music and fantastic people. As I enjoyed your 2 hours of fun I was really amazed by these visuals you put on. I found “Machines Can do the work” in the internet but there were a lot more. I am planning a party in my place in Hamburg where I am staying now for a year and want to let these people feel what i felt a few weeks ago. Is it possible to get some of these visuals? Another question…are you planning to come to Hamburg one day? There are lots of nice locations especially at the harbour which are predestinated for some “brighton beats”. Think about it:)
Regards from Hamburg
Thomas
Thomas, no plans for hamburg at the moment but I’m playing berlin on december 8th.
I’m glad you like the visuals, tim who makes them does a great job. We are intending to put more of them up on the site very soon. In the meantime check out plastic pictures, his company..
Norm, funksoulbrother Massive Fan!
I’m an aspiring (yet to be) Australian DJ & was wondering what would be a good name, since you seem to be legend.
Also, when are you going to release another album under the solo Fatboy Slim label?
Thanks for your time, Pat
I would recommend your name should not start with ‘dj’ ie dj pat or dj aussie. Pat is a pretty cool name, what’s your surname? If it’s cool then you don’t necessarily need a ‘dj name’ I’ve got a really good mate called pat the hat and I think he’s got the coolest name ever.
Yes I”m working on a new fatboy lp. Probably finish it next year.
Firstly, i have to say,i think you are the best artist in the world, let alone dj!!! And although i missed your sw4 set(gutted) as i was there for saturday, i saw it on b@tv and it looked absolutely amazing!!! I was thinking of coming up to your nottingham gig and wondered, without giving too much away, will you be playing a similar set to the sw4 one? and what time is the night set to finish? cheers if you can reply norm, all the best
Dan. I am intending to play a whole different set in nottingham. That set over the summer has now been done (apart from in south america!) and I’ve got a whole bunch of new tunes for the autumn. I’m afraid I don’t have any stage times yet for the show but I expect it might be a late one…
hi norm
i was just asking wether you were basing the song ‘going out of my head’ on bowies ‘i can’t explain’ or if you were plaguerising or something? im a big fan hope its just a coincidence.
Long live bowie
Louis, yes, the tune was indeed based on ‘I can’t explain’ by the who. The version I sampled was yvonne elliman’s (it’s credited on the record so not plaguerised) I didn’t realise that david bowie had covered it as well…
Hi Norm!
I’m very excited about the concert…
How does it feel to come first to Paraguay?
Please bring with you your whole repertoire mixes…
I’ll be waiting…
Thanks.
thanks. I will bring my full repertoire indeed!
Hey Norm i”ve been a fan of you since for ever!!!
And now i”m so exited to see you the 5th of november in Peru.
Good Vibes, see you soon
excellent. see you there xx
what is the size/storage capacity of the SW4 Smiley Face USB?
1 gb
Hi! Is really confirmed your show in Argentina in November? Why isn’t it on your tour tracker?
Thanks!
Yes it is here:

i was wondering how much memory the smiley usb flash drives have, cheers.

Norm,
do you fancy a dj spot at me dads 40th birthday party. We are planning a gospel choir, SKA/Two Tone 10 piece band, Northern Sould DJ and some stuff for the kids. You can bring your family with you and we will look after you. It will be a top night. We are in Preston Lancashire
Thanks Lucy and Alice aged 11 and 15.
PS me dad ,met you in a service station when you were in the housemartins!
PPS he also took me to see you in Portugal last year near portimoa, at that race track but made me go home early as it was in the middle of nowhere.
PPPs imagine you are our age and someone like Paul Weller or Joe Strummer came to yours to DJ
xxxxx
joe strummer eh? you almost had me there. I’m afraid I don’t have time to do birthday parties these days but do wish your dad a very happy 40th from me!
Ah, no worries Norm!
thanks anyway,
would i be able to ask you a favour, would you be able to record a birthday message for him. Thank you!
Lucy xxxx
Dear Norman, I’ve just returned from your show in Kiev, which was one of the best in my life! I don’t have any question, just want to thank you for all the positive emotions & excitement that don’t let me fall asleep at this late hour:-) It was a great pleasure to see that you enjoy being there as much as we do! I wanna thank you once again, hoping that you’ll read my message personally & get at least a little part of the joy you gave me:-) I really hope you’ll come back someday soon:-) Have a lovely night!
thank you very much. that was a great gig for me too. what a great crowd!
the reason I came over was to make friends so I can come back and play more as ‘official dj’ during the 2012 euro football finals. now I’m really looking forward to coming back!
