i just want to ask what’s your opinion about the mission dance weekend in romania
did you enjoy the audience, the crowd?
I loved it. Thank you for having me!
Hey Norm,
Saw you at Glastonbury and RockNess, both outstanding sets. RockNess was better in my opinion as it was outdoors and the Scottish crowd is hard to beat. What did you think of the set and being back at RockNess again?
Will be travelling down to London for the SW4 gig, any idea where the secret gig will be that you hinted at in the video?
Cheers,
Michael
Michael, hope you enjoyed sw4. I enjoyed both, glasto had a more intense, clubby feel. Rockness was kick-ass festival vibes. sw4 just had the best sunset of the summer!
I never made it to the after party sadly. I was knackered after playing 2 shows in ibiza on Friday night and had to get my wife and son back to brighton…
Was it Corsica you couldn’t go to for afters ?.
Can you tell me the title and artist of the track which is starting right after the eye of the tiger in this video (unfortunately just a short part of the track, but could not find longer)

Hi Norm ! I am your FAN since 9 years old(born in 1987) , I am from Ukraine so I`m sorry for my bad grammar. I remember how i bring Compact Cassette with your music at Club , and after the party a 100 people asked me which music is it. It was huge line of people who want get this Cassette
I want ask you what a Dj Sowtware, and what equipment do you use ?
What you recommend for beginner Dj , and maybe you know good Dj school ?
Your FAn
I use serato scratch live. It’s great and you can use either turntables or cdj’s. It costs about £400 but is all you’ll ever need. There is no school for dj’s, just the university of life!
Hi,
Do you drive an Astin Martin? We were on our way back to London from Poole the other day and spotted a gorgeous one on the Motorway. I rubber necked to see who was driving it and the guy looked just like you. Have been wondering ever since.
Please could you let me know!
Thanks
Rachel x
Rachel, sadly I do not drive an aston martin. They are very beautiful cars. Maybe one day….i actually drive a jaguar but haven’t driven on the a 303 for a long time.
Hey. Norm!
If it`s not a secret, what is your favorite dream?
It’s complicated and involves me dressed as a bumble bee on a boat and all my teeth fall out!
Nnanananananana-Norman. do you even know how absolutely talented you are? PURE CLASS

Ha ha. I find one is only as talented as the people who sing along to your records!

Hi best DJ and producer ever!
Ive loved your music since I heard Rockafeller Skank, and I dont know anyone who like your music as much as me. You were the reason for me to go to my first festival: Roskilde Festival in Denmark. Since then I’ve been there six times, and met my lovely girlfriend. Without you, I would never had met her, so big thanks for that!!
Another fun thing, your manager threw your towel out in the 40 000 people crowd and my friend grabbed it
Tell me if you need it, he still have it. I know, sounds sick, but blame yourself for being the best producer ever!
I love how you worked with samples on the albums “You’ve come a long long way baby” and “Halfway between the gutter and the stars” and even the difference between every song. How do/did you work with the rights for all the samples? Whats your recommendations if I’m building music by samples?
Greetings from Stockholm
Joel, you can keep the towel. It probably needs a good wash by now. Messing about with samples is fun at home and you can do what you want. It is only if you release the results commercially that you have to worry and it then requires time, patience and lawyers (hence money!). My advice is when you get to the stage of releasing your tunes, let the record company worry about the lawyers and copyright issues. Meantime have fun with your sampler!
Hey Norm ,
Huge fan saw you at oxegen just wondering after your into (phycadellic sisters etc ) what is the second song sounds like a sample from Jay Z – H to the Izzo ”This is the anthem get your damn hands up”
The tune is ‘hip house anthem’ by rico tibbs. I just checked the jay z tune and it sounds a lot like the sample but I don’t think it is the same vocal. Nice spotting though! You’ll have to ask rico what the real sample is!
Where does the speech from “Drop the Hate” come from? Brilliant pairing of words with music, and I love the musicality of the speaker’s inflections.
Hello susan. Good question. It is from a sermon by the rev w leo daniels called ‘the answer to watergate’
It’s available on cd;

Or you can check his style on u tube;

Dear Norman
At Rockness this year I wondered did you receive a request to dedicate “Right Here, Right Now” to a young man called Ian Buchanan who had just died in a tragic car accident in Aberdeen-shire on 5th June. He was only 2 days before his 23rd birthday and was excited about his birthday and also going to Rockness as he always did with all his Alford school friends.
I’m his mum June Ross and from Inverness so also have been to Rockness and saw you for the first time 2 years ago which was on the 7th June 2008 – Ian’s 21st birthday and I just loved it and your music that night – it was brilliant!
At Rockness this year I saw you, as I was front of stage as I was 2 years ago, and saw you lift something above your head, it looked like a vinyl but also looked like a halo in the light. I just wondered was that your dedication to my son.
Also can you please ask Zoe does she remember me as the Scottish lady that she and her brother chatted to on their way to the Seychelles and back, but especially when we were stranded and Zoe wanted to return to London!
I hope she, you and the family are well and you enjoy your children – life is way too short and your children’s growing up is a very precious time – please enjoy.
Kind Regards
June
Thanks june,
Sorry I didn’t get the message about your son. I would have gladly played the tune for him. Perhaps he was listening that day and provided the halo because it definitely wasn’t mine! If/when I return to rockness I will be thinking of him.
Yes zoe does remember you going to the seychelles, thanks for looking after her, we were both in a bit of a pickle in our lives at that point.
We are all well, thank you. Little nelly is 8 months old and delicious, woody is 9 and a bundle of happy nonsense. We love them and will cherish them every day. Life is too short indeed. Our love to you and our thoughts to ian.
X norm and zoe
Dear Norm and Zoe
Thanks for your reply, only just advised there was one here!
With the confirmation that you didn’t get the request for Ian then I have no doubt that he indeed was listening, watching and “playing tricks” at Rockness as he was famed for!
I hope to see your return there in the near future and priviliged that you are added to the many that will visit Rockness and have thoughts of Ian – a special young man that still had so much to do and see, yet proud what all he did achieve in his too short life.
A music lover brought up with everything from ceilidh/pipe band music to U2, Phil Collins to Techno, his later years proved a knowledge of DJ’s and variety of music that I’m only touching the surface now in learning about! His only sister Carina (21) and other close friends chose the 3 very apt tracks for his funeral from his massive, diverse playlist. Aha – Take on Me, Cinematic Orchestra – Build a Home and Simple Minds – Don’t You Forget About Me! All very special songs now, even if they weren’t before (as I and many others hadn’t heard Build a Home – and what a tune!), as is Right Here, Right Now and “Ian’s Halo” at Rockness 2010 (see YouTube)!
Glad Zoe you remember me – life is indeed a roller coaster we all ride! Delighted to hear you’re all well and ensuring cherished times with Nelly and Woody who sound great. I have Ross (14) and Kyle (12) home now for holidays, Ian’s younger brothers who are carrying on his love of music and keeping mum updated!
With love and appreciation of your kind reply, its brought tears and comfort.
Junex
p.s. please let me know when north of the border!
Hi Mr Cook, you are a legend!!! me and the lads saw you at the V Fest last year, which was one if the best performances of the festival!!! but we never saw it on t.v is there any way we can view it, was it even filmed?? it should have been. Another question is that i saw you in an interview last year i think that you was talking about bringing out a new album which had a lot your friends on it such as Dizzee. When will you bring it out or is it still in the making? Hope to here from you soon Brad
I don’t think v was filmed but you can watch this year’s clapham show (for a limited time) on BE@ TV – http://www.be-at.tv
As for the dizzee thing. The Brighton Port Authority album came out last year and is called ‘I think we’re gonna need a bigger boat’
You can hear the track feat. Dizee here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bWAl31G-f1E
Hi Norm, I live in Parkes, central New South Wales,Australia. I’ve only just heard about you (long story but I basically missed the whole 1980’s and 1990’s music) so wondering if you could please advise what album of your stuff to get so I can hear what you’re all about. I love beat; rythm; drums and bass; I love the music with the World Cup in 200 seconds clip. Hopefully I can catch up on the music I missed years ago! Thanks for your time. cheers from Janet Looby (it’s Irish) (and yes I’m old . . . ish (48). Cya !
The music on that clip is me under the name of the urban allstars called “it began in africa’ that came out in about 1988. If you like that stuff perhaps check out beats international. A band I was in about that time…

and i guess you could help me,
be blessed
your sincerly
3,14…
See Dil’s answer or work it out. (it’s only 2 chords!)
what movies did you have your song right here right now in
I have no idea, perhaps other people might know. I don’t know of that tune being in a film. Anyone?
it’s been used at the end of “there’s only one Jimmy Grimble” in the final football match in the film. That scene makes the film, one of my favourites. And it’s still used at the city of manchester stadium when the players run out before the match and makes the atmosphere in that stadium immense.
Right Here Right Now has been in “Any Given Sunday”
oh i thought it was in a movie i watched it before and it had your song in it no actually the beat of it
Hi Norman,
First i wanna thank you that you always provide us with your great music. And you do not seem to get tired. Go on.
My question is, when the shop will be ready?? You wrote in a response that there will be soon the chance to buy a USB Stick at Clapham! Is there a way to get one of them, even if i am not at Clapham?
Thanks
It’s ready now!
Anyone can pre-order the USB, it will be shipped out just after the gig.
Hi Norman
Loved the set at Giants Park back in May and looking forward to seeing u again somwhere. Just wondering why u aren’t playing at planet love in Belfast in September anymore?
Cheers
I am playing planet love on 11th september I think….. it’s in the Gigs section
If I may, can I just like to clear that one up for all those that think you’re not playing. The original flyer had you on it. Then the next one didn’t have you on it. Low and behold, you’re on the final one.
This did confuse a lot of us fans out here. Hope that makes sense to all.
HI Norm, could you please tell me how can I download more of your sets ? Thank you!
I really don’t know how file sharing works and I’m told it is illegal so I couldn’t possibly encourage you in that direction!
I am sorry i didn’t made myself clear i am willing to buy your sets but i haven’t found any place on the web to do that
Thanks you are the best
Ben there’s now a USB available in the Shop with my set from SW4 last week on it, plus loads of other stuff
